More than the Moment

We tend to think on low scales, here and now.  We exist, but only in this moment, the past is the past and the future is yet to exist.  We walk in eternity, every moment we have is a moment that reverberates throughout time.

Unexplainable

At the cusp of nothing… there is something.

Things often happen in a way that is never expected, after all how can you expect the unexpected?  At the end of something that was never supposed to end, something begins. It’s hard to explain and it is even harder to live.

Breaking Dawn

I never expected this,
to be captured by your eyes.
Not even a little wish,
to cut through the old lies.
All it took was a single smile,
and all my walls fell down.
I thought it would take a while,
before I knew it all was lost,
And I was surely under a spell.
You came in and it’s gone at all cost,
and deeper and deeper I fell.
Before I knew it I was not alone,
and my heart, it was gone.

Magic and Possibility

To see the world through the eyes of a child…
Is to see a world of magic and possibility.

To see the world as an adult…
Is to forever wish to see it through the eyes of a child.

Casting Crowns

Sometimes we fall and we lose what we thought was so dear and soon we have to find our way back to a place where we are comfortable.  Sometimes we find that what we lost wasn’t so great and we shrug it off and we rise above it and we find something so much better.

(About the Photo:  Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz was the wife of King George III of Great Britain and Ireland and she is who the city of Charlotte, NC was named for.   This statue that appears outside Charlotte-Douglas International Airport (CLT) appears to have her casting away her crown symbolically as the city itself once cast away its ties to Great Britain in the American War of Independence. )

Fascination

Machines have always fascinated me.   From the lowly workhorse car to the space shuttle, machines have entered our lives relatively fast and changed our world.  Personally I am one of the most mechanically dysfunctional people on the planet, though I have improved a bit over the years, I am still just bound by fascination and amazement that a hunk of metal placed together in such a way can do so much.

Ancorā impāro

I’ve gone through a lot in the past year, I ended up some place I would have never guessed would be a place for me to be.   Here are some things that I’ve learned in the past year believe me this is not all inclusive.

Sometimes bad things happen to good people and no matter how you want to help the best help is just being there.

When one door closes another one opens, it just takes you looking to see it.

Never underestimate the stupidity of people as some will let their kids swim in the surf of a tropical storm with waves that hit the bottom of a 20 ft high pier, while the red signals are flying.

Take the scenic route home, it may be longer… but the stars are prettier.

Some family is by birth… some family is forged in fire.

It is possible to idolize someone for their good traits and recognize the bad traits… and accept them for what they truly are.

Opportunity comes where and when you least expect it and can change your life.

Soul mates do exist and you can fall madly in love with them… and have to acknowledge that the timing is wrong and you can’t be together just yet.

Sometimes things that are too good to be true really are… however not always.

The amount of time that it takes someone to etch themselves on your heart can vary from a short amount of time to an inconceivable amount of time.

Children can speak words with such truth that it can make you cry.

The ocean is a powerful living being that can humble you in your most prideful moments, and it can cleanse you of all that is troubling you… and it can take your very life away… all in an instant.

It is possible to love again when you never thought that it would be possible.

The past year has been an adventure and it is no where near over… I am still learning.

Hope

The darkness can be suffocating robbing you of everything that you hold dear.  It can be so dark and despair so overwhelming that it seems that there is no way out.   I lost a friend to this darkness and it is a darkness myself have found myself inside.  A deep dark inky place of tears and hopelessness, but no matter how dark it seems… there is a way out.  No matter how bad things seem, it will always get better.  Things go in a wheel time pushes us along and soon we will stumble from the darkness into the light and wonder why we stayed so long trapped in despair.

You just have to keep hope that you will find out way on the trail to the light.

Keep hope…

Just hope.

It is all you need.

Echoes of Angels

Here I am caught in the rush,
Caught doing things against my heart.
I wonder why things happen the way they do,
Sometimes you have no choice.

You can fight against the push,
Even when things seem to break apart.
Counting yourself among the few,
Speaking without a voice.

Moving with the flow,
Because the current is to strong.
Going back is not an option,
Inside the rapids you must churn.

You must allow yourself to grow,
Knowing that you could be wrong.
Knowing that it could be the hearts concoction,
Waiting for angels to return.

the road less traveled

Sometimes you walk the road less traveled. You leave it all behind for no rhyme or reason.  None at all.

No reason for why you’re drawn away.

Except fate.

Fate…

I was destroyed… alone, beyond hope….
Broken.

Shattered.

Fate brought me here, on a road not considered.

Why?

Unsure…

A mirror? Heartache?

Uncertainty?

No…..

Certainty.

What is Love

Love is a complex emotion that is hard to describe.

It is an Unwillingness to let someone fall… to see them hurt, to see them cry.

It is a Willingness to do whatever it takes to ensure that they continue to smile.

It is an insurance policy, maybe not for you…  but for you to them.

It is a road… the road is best traveled with the one you love… but sometimes you go solo.

It is the greatest feeling you can ever feel at any given time… however it can also be the worst feeling you can ever feel at any given time… and on top of that… at the same time.

Love…  just is.

You can’t change it when it happens… Love is a river you get caught in the current and you just have to let it guide you where it goes.

Water Through Time

Water drips down the bottle,
Slowly moving through time.
Time doesn’t slow, even for the lowly.

Loneliness spreads like the water, engulfing my entire soul.
Darkness takes it’s toll as the clock ticks on.
Time moves and doesn’t slow. The darkness drips into my very essence
Polluting my thoughts, and souring my dreams.

Time moves darkness flows, loneliness takes root.
I drip down the glass moving through time, wishing it would slow, but it never will, not for me… not for you… not for water.

継続は力なり。

Hanging in the window of The Green Bean in downtown Greensboro hang a flock of paper cranes; I am unsure as to why they hang, I assume it could be in honor of those affected a year ago in Japan.

(Title Translation: Perseverance is strength.)

Felis qui nihil debet

There are people that come into your life that you know without a doubt you would bend the heavens for.  No thinking, no hesitation, they ask and suddenly the word, “yes,” falls from your lips without a single regret.   Loyalty like no other… something rare and beautiful in itself.

Something Beautiful

From the darkness and the debris of that lost...  come a new arising… reaching for the light.   Something beautiful.

How Was I to know?

How was I to know when I came here,
How was I to know I had much to fear?
You came and took away my breath,
How was I to know I’d freely give the rest?
How was I to know I could lose it all?
I’ve never been so ready to take a fall.
I’m not one to blatantly risk my heart,
How will I know you won’t break it apart?
I am speechless whenever we meet,
How was I to know you’d make my heart beat?
I lost it all when I came to this place,
I lost my heart without a trace.

Randam Art

I’m not one to get caught up in jewelry, I always see it as something a bit impersonal… created en masse to be given as gifts and although beautiful no real love was put into it.   It was created for the sole purpose of being purchased and used… not much different than a TV or anything else.

One of my dearest friends has changed this perception.  Miranda creates some of the most creative and beautiful necklaces, among other items, that I’ve ever seen.  She puts so much into it, she puts herself into the items and each one tells a story.  I like this, it makes them special and one of a kind… qualities that you can't find produced en masse.  I’ve always admired her artistic touch and I’ve showcased some of her work on here before.   She truly is one of the most talented people I know and I am privileged to have some of her work in my own home.

Happy Spring!

Reaching for the blue sky, branches outreached ready to burst forth with leaves.   Winter has faded into the past giving forth warmth and beautiful colors from green to magenta.  The world is waking…

Happy Spring!

Find the Color

The trees are bare, but the air is starting to warm.  The trees are slowing awakening from their long winter sleep.   Back home in Mississippi the trees are never as bare as I have seen them here in North Carolina.   When I first arrived, I commented that they looked dead.  I was soon informed that it was just “seasons” and that it is normal for trees not to have leaves during the winter.  In Mississippi the leaves did fall however the pine trees stayed green all year, here the pine trees are not near as numerous and the world is lacking in that magical hue.

Lately however hints of color are poking through, not just green…. But pink, white and purple.  The trees are flowering well before they have leaves it is a wonderful surprise for a world that has been grey since my arrival.

Reflections

Reflections…
Look inside and see…
Truly see…

Listen to your heart…
It reminds…
Never lose…

Honesty…
Staring back...
From inside…

Never forget…
What is there…
Inside…

Your heart…

A reflection of honesty…

I Miss Mayberry

Time passes and things seem to get busier and busier and soon we will forget the simplicity that was once part of life in a small town.   For nearly the past twenty years the world has been connected and made to seem very small and now everyone is connected.

“I miss Mayberry,

Sitting on the porch drinking,
Ice cold Cherry Coke,
Where everything is black and white,
Picking on a six string,
Where people pass by and you call
Them by their first name,
Watching the clouds roll by.”

-Rascal Flatts

Mount Airy, NC is the epitome of the small town; it is also the childhood home of Andy Griffith and inspiration of Mayberry from the Andy Griffith Show.   I had the chance to walk through the town and even have dinner at Barney’s I was reminded of a time not too long ago when the world was smaller and we all knew and cared for one another.

Unwilling

There are many things worth giving up on and there are many things I should have given up on in the past.  I once swore that I didn’t believe that love was something that was possible… a fantasy people made up to convince themselves that they needed someone to fight away the loneliness of life.   As I am getting older I begin to realize just how wrong I am.   Love is something more than each of us alone it is a shared experience between two people that surpasses anything we know individually.  It is a combination of emotions and events that grow over time to create a bond that no one can shatter… it is something not comprehendible except to those that experience it first hand.   It crosses all boundaries and even unites hearts across distance.  It is most likely the most amazing thing that we can experience with another. I’m not willing to give up on this!

Desperado

The little beauty that can come from the simplest things, I can show you the wonders of the world.  From the tallest mountains to the sea; the beauty of architecture to the simplest joys of life… sometimes I have to remind myself that the best things in life just appear out of no where.  When someone says “Hey look at what you’re missing,” and you realize you nearly missed something very important.

“…Why don't you come to your senses?
Come down from your fences, open the gate
It may be rainin', but there's a rainbow above you…”

“Desperado” by The Eagles

Leap

No matter how scary things may seem, sometimes the fall is worth it.

Pilot Mountain is an hour’s drive from me; I recently made the drive to see this beautiful landform for myself.

Becoming One

Two hearts combine into one,
something that can not be undone.
The beauty that begins,
when two hearts glow with the love within.
Souls intertwine into something more,
a new love that outshines what came before.

Back to the Start...

Through our lives we encounter endings constantly, whether it is just the end of a day or something much larger.  We must take the chance to embrace these endings, they may be something sad… however, in the same sense they can be immensely beautiful.

Washed Away...

Life can be as turbulent as the seas on a windy day; strong currents can take you away from familiar shores.  In July life currents carried me far away from my home of Mississippi to the beautiful Florida panhandle.  I never expected to me washed away so soon, but later this month I will find myself well away from Florida’s Emerald Coast or Mississippi’s familiar trails… I will find myself in North Carolinas piedmont, new territory to explore.

What We Become...

At some time we look back at what we have left behind a twisted mass of beautiful controlled chaos that is our life.  We see the beauty that lies within, the vibrant hues that make us who we are.

From Above

Looking down, it all seems small and insignificant.

Who are we to claim all of this?

We just borrow it….

We need to respect it.

Before it is taken back from us.
