 One of my favorite spots on any ship I’ve sailed on is the stern. On the *Navigator of the Seas*, it provided the perfect frame for Ensenada in the distance. The view was nothing short of picture-perfect—a scene so captivating that I couldn’t resist capturing it.

Gatito Bonito

Stalking the streets in search of pets and treats, these friendly locals are always on the prowl. They offer purrs of satisfaction—not so much for the pets, but for the treats they know are coming. It's a full-on mission to charm their way into your snack stash, and honestly, who could resist? 

 

Agua Fría y Bonita

The mesmerizing, multi-colored waters of Bacalar create a breathtaking contrast against the land and sky. Cool and refreshing, they offer not only a visual spectacle but also a serene escape. This natural wonder is a true testament to the stunning beauty of Mexico, captivating all who visit with its vibrant hues and tranquil charm.

Frida Kahlo

This vibrant mural adorns a sea wall as you disembark from your cruise ship in Costa Maya, Mexico. It pays tribute to one of the most renowned Mexican artists, whose influence has endured through generations. Her presence continues to be felt across various forms of media whenever Mexico is represented—even making a cameo in Disney’s Coco. I often wonder what she would think of her lasting legacy and how she continues to embody Mexican culture with such grace and beauty.

First Impressions

Waking up and stepping onto the deck, I was greeted by my first morning impressions of Ensenada, Mexico. The sky was adorned with breathtaking clouds, their soft forms contrasting beautifully against the lush green mountains. Buildings dotted the hillsides, adding character to the landscape, while the deep blue waters below mirrored the vast sky, completing the stunning scene.

 

Baja Blast

Mexico is a breathtakingly beautiful country, far more diverse than I once imagined. The Baja California coast, with its rugged mountains and stunning shoreline, left a lasting impression on me. During our visit, we took a trip to La Bufadora, a natural blowhole on the Punta Banda Peninsula, about 17 miles south of Ensenada. While the blowhole itself was impressive, the best part was the walk along the cliffs after exploring the market. I loved watching the waves crash against the towering rock formations that rise like cathedrals from the Pacific.

Lagoon of Seven Colors

Nestled about an hour from Costa Maya is the town of Bacalar.   Bacalar is the namesake of Lake Bacalar known ass the Lagoon of Seven Colors.   It is a freshwater lake fed by underground springs.   It is relatively shallow in most areas giving way to cenotes that are hundreds of feet deep.    The reputation for having seven colors comes from the fact that the water being so clear shows as many shades of blue depending on how deep the water is.  It goes from a greenish blue, to a light blue, all the way to a deep dark blue.  Lake  Bacalar is also known as one of the homes of Stromatolites; one of the oldest extant lifeforms on Earth.   

Of all the places I have had a chance to visit, this one is by far one of the most beautiful. 

 

Toes in the Water

I've always been drawn to the beach; this particular beach is in Cozumel, Mexico at the Chankanaab. Adventure Park.   As I had to work today, this is where I wish I was... or better yet, where I was going for at least the weekend.    

Just grab one of those chairs and get a nice strong fruity drink

The jungle grows around the faux Mayan Ruins on Cozumel, Mexico's Chankanaab Adventure Park.   The jungle and ocean provided scenic views and plenty to explore.

Out of Place

Ever just seen something that just takes your breath away and it just seems so out of place? Mexican restaurants always seem to have very nice artwork usually stereotyped from the area that the restaurant attempts to emulate. But for some reason this moon and sun just stands out for me every time I go to El Charro in Pearl, MS… I don’t know if it is the colors, or just the fact that I absolutely love this piece of artwork.. but it just does not seem to belong is a Mexican restaurant., it must just not be sterotypical enough.

El Wal-Brero

Today we went and had lunch with John and Cynthia at El Sombrero that just opened up in Brandon in between the Fred’s and Hancock Fabrics in what was once a Wal-Mart. I was shocked when I walked in at how awesome the place looked compared to some of the other restaurants in town, and the fact that it was located in a former Wal-Mart was even more shocking for me. Anytime I walk into a place that I knew in it’s former existence I look for little nuances of what once was, and the only way that I could tell that this had been a Wal-Mart was the painted “shopping center” ceiling, but the transformation was wonderful… kinda felt like I was in a resort in some odd Mexican town. The food was average compared to other Mexican restaurants, but it was not bad, I hope to return soon!
