Just Floating

The ocean has always held a certain fascination for me; there’s something about its vastness, its power, and its mystery that draws me in. But even more captivating are the people who live and work on the water—their connection to the sea runs deep, and their lives are shaped by its rhythms.

These boats in Galveston, TX, are poised and waiting for their next adventure. They are more than just vessels; they are the lifelines of hardworking crews who venture out into the Gulf, fishing the waters to bring fresh, local seafood to the tables of hungry people. Each journey is an act of both skill and courage, a testament to the timeless relationship between humans and the ocean. It's a world that remains as wild and vital as the waters they navigate.

Doggo Beach Day

A little over a year ago, we took the boys to Galveston for a Doggo Beach Day. It was Luke's first time seeing the ocean, and his excitement was contagious. Dae Dae, on the other hand, pranced around like he was born for the beach—totally in his element. I can't help but wonder what was going through their minds as they faced the vast sea. Did they feel small in comparison to the endless horizon, or were they simply in awe of it all? I can only hope they had as much fun as I did during their little beach vacation.

 

SS Selma

Built in Mobile, AL in 1919, the SS Selma was the largest of a unique class of concrete ships. She remained in service for only a few years before striking a jetty in Tampico, Mexico, in 1920. Towed to Galveston for repairs, she was ultimately abandoned in 1922 and allowed to sink just off Pelican Island, about a mile north of Galveston. Today, she remains the only permanent shipwreck in the Houston Ship Channel, a lasting relic of maritime history.
