Fidus

"Fidus"—the Latin word for "faithful"—is where we get the name "Fido" for our loyal canine companions.

Every Lazy Dog restaurant features one or two of these unique statues, crafted from carefully assembled scrap metal to create an adorable doggo. Whenever I dine there, I always take a moment to appreciate and photograph the art.

Cute!

I love finding cute things in random places.  This mouse adorned the checkout counter of a Boba Shop.  It was too cute to not take a picture of.  Things like this make the day worth out, to go and find something just so adorable.

Random Igloo of Memories...

Places are not just places, places hold memories dear and when we see these places the memories are given back to us, as if from a dream.

Yes Mississippi has at least one igloo, and it is a place that holds many memories for me.   This is the place that is a treat to go, the best place in the area for catfish.  While this is a statement that is opinion, it is an opinion that is shared among many.   Birthdays, Random family gatherings, and even just the occasional dinner have been had by me and my loved ones since I was little in this very igloo.  I cherish these, and I add to them every time I make my way to the Igloo down on ’49.

Wards

I have many traditions that I adhere to; most for no reason other than it is just something that I like to do.   One of these traditions is that on my way to the coast, I always stop and eat at the Wards in Hattiesburg.  Wards is a small chain of restaurants located in Mississippi.  It is an enigma to me, because there isn’t one here in Jackson, the largest city in Mississippi.  Wards is famous for its “Big One” a burger with secret sauce and chili, it also is known for its homemade root beer.   I think the reason I am so fond of this restaurant, is that it is a Mississippi chain, something we can call ours.

The 'O'

America is full of many different restaurant chains, and I always had my preferences. I always loved O’Charley’s, the food is pure Americana, and the people always seem to be genuinely friendly. I always wondered why people I have known seemed to love to work for the company. It was not until February 2009 when I found employment with the restaurant that I discovered just how special my O’Charley’s is, we are a family. I always hope that others find a place that is as fun and supportive a place to work, I am lucky to have two wonderful jobs.

Update: Sadly, this location has closed.

Come eat with us sometime!

Random Pretty

I love finding beauty in even the most common places, and if you look… it really is not that hard. This is the reverse side of the neon take out sign at Jason’s Deli in Jackson, MS. It is one of my favourite places to eat, as it offers the best salad bar in Jackson. I absolutely love it, as I love this random shot of pop-artish beauty.

Rendezvous

As I move forward, I can feel time flow by faster and faster… moving me towards a new adventure. I am not sure what the adventure has in store for me, but as it moves closer, and this rendezvous becomes more certain, I know that great things lie ahead… and I am more than ready to embrace what ever is coming.

About the Photo: Rendezvous Famous BBQ Ribs in Memphis, Tennessee just down the alley from Union Street…. Fabulous.

The Beatty Street Grocery

South Jackson is known for many things, most of them not so good things. The Beatty Street Grocery is one of the few good things that South Jackson is known for. Beatty Street is a throw back to the old general stores that used to dot the Mississippi landscapes until the Wal-Mart’s moved in. Beatty Street has been around as long as most people can remember, and it has a deli attached that can serve food that can rival most store chains. Now I need to warn you, the store does not look like much inside or out, but over all it is a jewel in the heart of a city that needs as many jewels as it can get.

Update: sadly, this jewel has closed it’s doors.

The Tomato

I absolutely love tomatoes, and recently my love of tomatoes has been targeted by a salmonella outbreak. It seems that every year a new fruit or vegetable is being found to contain enough salmonella to cause sickness, panic, and massive recalls… not to mention enough bans to cripple farmers. It leads a large amount of the population wondering how exactly this particular bacteria is appearing on fruits and vegetables year after year, it is starting not to look like some freak occurrence. This year the entire food service industry is affected, it really is astonishing how massive some events really are.

Thank God for my Garden!!!!!

Lucky Guy

Sometimes life throws you a party, and Echo was responsible for the greatest birthday party since I was 11 years old. A combination of people from many vast aspects and times of my life in one place was interesting to say the least. The turnout was so much better than expected, and it was wonderful to be around so many people that have touched and blessed my life. It was like being a tree in a dark room, getting a dose of exactly what it needed.

Lately I have felt like a tree in a dark room, and I really do feel so very blessed to have such wonderful and eclectic a group of friends.

I love each and every one of them!

(This photo was at Aladdin’s Mediterranean Restaurant at the Corner of Highway 25 and State Street in Jackson, Mississippi… they also have a new location in Dogwood off Lakeland Drive as well! They have the best Greek-Mediterranean food in the Jackson Area, I love it when I get a chance to drop in!)

Night Owls

This is my modern take on the Edward Hopper classic painting Night Hawks, one of my favorite pieces of all time. Waffle House is definitely a staple restaurant, one at every exit, and they serve fast and good breakfast food at all hours of the morning. If you look very close in the photo you will see three of my friends Celeste, Stacy, and Eric… granted you have to be looking for them.

Out of Place

Ever just seen something that just takes your breath away and it just seems so out of place? Mexican restaurants always seem to have very nice artwork usually stereotyped from the area that the restaurant attempts to emulate. But for some reason this moon and sun just stands out for me every time I go to El Charro in Pearl, MS… I don’t know if it is the colors, or just the fact that I absolutely love this piece of artwork.. but it just does not seem to belong is a Mexican restaurant., it must just not be sterotypical enough.
