Spring Memories

These sunflowers are from my garden last spring.  With the recent cold blast, its obvious that we are still a few months away from blooms like this, and here in Texas, they’ll only last until the summer heat and dryness take over and the squirrels have their fill. 

This year, I’m considering sticking to just flowers—but then again, I say that every year and still end up planting tomatoes!

What is Love

Love is a complex emotion that is hard to describe.

It is an Unwillingness to let someone fall… to see them hurt, to see them cry.

It is a Willingness to do whatever it takes to ensure that they continue to smile.

It is an insurance policy, maybe not for you…  but for you to them.

It is a road… the road is best traveled with the one you love… but sometimes you go solo.

It is the greatest feeling you can ever feel at any given time… however it can also be the worst feeling you can ever feel at any given time… and on top of that… at the same time.

Love…  just is.

You can’t change it when it happens… Love is a river you get caught in the current and you just have to let it guide you where it goes.

Find the Color

The trees are bare, but the air is starting to warm.  The trees are slowing awakening from their long winter sleep.   Back home in Mississippi the trees are never as bare as I have seen them here in North Carolina.   When I first arrived, I commented that they looked dead.  I was soon informed that it was just “seasons” and that it is normal for trees not to have leaves during the winter.  In Mississippi the leaves did fall however the pine trees stayed green all year, here the pine trees are not near as numerous and the world is lacking in that magical hue. 

Lately however hints of color are poking through, not just green…. But pink, white and purple.  The trees are flowering well before they have leaves it is a wonderful surprise for a world that has been grey since my arrival. 

Yellow

Spring is fully on its way out in Mississippi, the small spring and endless summer with (usually) mild winters, is what we are used to. After our unusually frigid winter, we are embracing the warmer weather, but with swimming pools set to open by the end of the month, the heat will soon be unbearable. However in the meantime the flowers are in bloom, bathing fields in colour of many shades. This is a scene I have never seen in my life, that is until today… a field of nothing but yellow flowers as far as the eye could see. It was breathtaking (and I don’t mean just because of the pollen.) The flowers are these small waxy yellow wildflowers that are common through the area, though I have never seen them in such a concentration.

Spring in the Air

The weather is changing, and aside from a few rather cool days, I feel it is safe to say that the cold is behind us. The wild onions are blooming and the other flowers and trees are following suit, spring has arrived in Mississippi! Today I spent some time with some of my adopted-family at the Ross Barnett reservoir having a picnic and enjoying the warm Mississippi sun. It was a perfect time… one of those memories that you will cherish for all time, I am lucky for the various wonderful people in my life!

Backyard Spring

Mississippi is one of the places that seasons make no real sense, we wear shorts one day… and the next night it snows. Right now we are in a very warm spring-like period, and all the plants are starting to bloom and all the insects are coming out to play. I do know that this early spring may very well be short lived, for I know that winter can strike back at any moment before the end of March and these delicate redbud blooms will be frozen sadly away, and the poor bumblebees will have to huddle for warmth. However for now they mingle, giving me a glimpse of what is coming.

On another note, this will most likely be my last blog post before my long awaited trip to the United Kingdom, where I will be sure to give the world a glimpse through my eyes of a completely different part of the world.

Stop and Stare at my Ordinary World

My life seems to be focused on new beginnings lately. That is a good thing, by all my standards!!! Last year in Toomsuba I planted a variable garden of sorts, I have always grown up with vegetables growing somewhere… so I am familiar with the breaking of earth and tending of the plants to grow something you can’t really get in a store. Well my venture in Toomsuba would have been successful if not for the under mining of the children, but now I have a chance to grow something that I will hopefully see the fruits of my labor. Three Tomatoes, a pepper plant, three flowering plants, as well as a plethora of Zinna’s that are direct descendants of the ones that I planted a year ago in Toomsuba. I consider it a symbolic representation of my life right now… it is awesome.
