The Reader

The Mary Lib Saleh Euless Public Library in Euless, TX stands out as the public library with the most monuments I’ve ever seen. Just outside its entrance, there’s a particularly touching memorial that immediately caught my attention. What makes it especially heartwarming is the inclusion of the man’s dog as part of the tribute. Even more meaningful is the fact that the dog’s head remains shiny and free of patina—clearly from the many people who have lovingly rubbed it over time. It’s a quiet, beautiful reminder of the deep bond between humans and their loyal companions.

Good Mom

This nostalgic photo, taken in 1994, captures my beloved childhood dog, Shadow, with her first litter of puppies. Two of those pups would go on to become cherished companions throughout my childhood, creating memories that would last a lifetime.

Shadow was an incredibly attentive mother, always caring for her puppies with tenderness and devotion. Beyond that, she was a wonderful companion, bringing warmth and loyalty to our home every day.

Beyoncé

No, it’s not her real name. I gave her that nickname because she embodies sass, beauty, and grace—qualities that suit her perfectly. Interestingly, these traits also describe her mother, Bettye, who has been a cherished friend of mine for almost two decades.

Goofy Doggo

This is an older photo of Little Luke, but it remains one of my favorites. It perfectly captures his mischievous spirit! He’s incredibly affectionate and, in many ways, the quintessential dachshund—though he’s a mix.

One of the best dogs I’ve ever had, he’s kind to everyone and always ready to play.

Buen Chico

Comfortable snuggling a fuzzy blanket; Dae Dae contemplates if the food giver will be giving him food at any moment.

After all he is a buen chico.

Bailey

He was six when we made the journey from North Carolina to Texas.  We started a new life with one another. It wasn’t easy, he comforted me when I lost my grandma and my mom. Eventually, he went to live with Manny but remained a part of my life.  He would always brighten my day with his excitement to see me.  As he got older I would worry more; but I knew he was taken care of. He crossed the bridge just shy of his 19th birthday.  I will miss him until we meet again.

Kai

Kai came into my life as this little goofy ball of energy. He grew into a massive bundle of gentle kindness. He showered everyone with love and he made a lasting impression for anyone who had the honor to meet him. He was this bright light that I will miss until the day I get the chance to see him again. I love you Kai-Dog. You were absolutely a good boy through and through. Thank you for being a part of my life

Paws

My life has been touched by many people… But not just people.  I wanted to take a moment and remember the furry ones from my past that have touched my soul.   They have had a profound impact on who I am and I think of them often.

Celeste

Celeste passed from our world at around 4:30 on 15OCT.  She was anywhere from 16-17 years old.

I will never forget the moment we saw her at the petstore.  Already middle aged at 8; she was eager for love and attention though glass separated us.  She had been returned three times by three different families.   All these years later I never will understand why anyone would have returned her.  She was such a sweet girl always willing to give love and attention.

She made a lasting impact on my life and I will always hold her in my heart.

Puppachino Joy!

The best part of Starbucks is the Puppachino by far.   Nothing like the joy on a pups face when they get a nice treat.  Starbucks gets so much of my money just because they have these!

Luke

Luke is still learning; he is just 4 months old.  He has brought much joy into our lives.  He makes me laugh so much with his curiosity and he is a good boy.

Bailey

Definitely and old guy with a heart of gold.  At 12 he can be crotchety, but believe me he has no problem keeping up with the whippersnappers… at least until they step out of line and onto his lawn.  He is for sure a cuddle-buddy and loves to play.

Kai

I’ve known Kai since he was a drooling lanky puppy.  He has grown tremendously over the years and is by far one of the sweetest dogs I have ever had the privilege of knowing.  He doesn’t bark often and seldom growls and never in anger.  He sees a small puppy, he lays down to play with them at their level… even if they are barking and being otherwise unfriendly.   He shares kindness and love with everyone and everything he meets.  He shares love and kisses with anyone willing to show him love.

When Ya Gotta Go...

Sometimes, you just have to smile and let go of what is serious.

Faithful

There is nothing like the love of a faithful companion.  Someone that will adore you and see through all of your faults, someone to be there and cuddle you just when you need it the most.  Nothing like unconditional love…. Be it feline, canine, or any other variety, our pets offer us something so precious that it must be cherished.

Felis qui nihil debet

There are people that come into your life that you know without a doubt you would bend the heavens for.  No thinking, no hesitation, they ask and suddenly the word, “yes,” falls from your lips without a single regret.   Loyalty like no other… something rare and beautiful in itself.
