Scenic Surprise

 

Scenic wonders can be found in the most unexpected places, if you take the time to look. These particular ducks, calmly gliding across a small pond tucked behind a rest area on the way to Houston, are a perfect example. It’s a quiet, serene moment that many might overlook, yet it holds its own beauty. The stillness of the water, the peaceful movement of the ducks, and the simple yet soothing scene create a reminder that nature has a way of surprising you—even in the midst of a busy journey.

Lagoon of Seven Colors

Nestled about an hour from Costa Maya is the town of Bacalar.   Bacalar is the namesake of Lake Bacalar known ass the Lagoon of Seven Colors.   It is a freshwater lake fed by underground springs.   It is relatively shallow in most areas giving way to cenotes that are hundreds of feet deep.    The reputation for having seven colors comes from the fact that the water being so clear shows as many shades of blue depending on how deep the water is.  It goes from a greenish blue, to a light blue, all the way to a deep dark blue.  Lake  Bacalar is also known as one of the homes of Stromatolites; one of the oldest extant lifeforms on Earth.   

Of all the places I have had a chance to visit, this one is by far one of the most beautiful. 

 

Grapevine Lake

I have lived in Texas since late 2012,   I have had the chance in that time to do some exploring and my frequent flights have given me a chance to see first hand that for the entire time I have been here the lakes have all been well below their banks.   I have never visited a lake in the Dallas area that wasn't in water conservation, it was always strange to see the eroded original shoreline and then walk down to the current shore line.  Well after the storms of the last few weeks, that has changed dramatically.   I've seen more thunderstorms in the past month than in my entire time in Texas.  And as you can see, Grapevine Lake, is well above it's banks... a dramatic lesson in extremes. 

 

Rubber Ducky

I am not too sure what the story behind this display that was in a store window in downtown Natchez yesterday.   I just know that it seemed a bit quirky (well quacky) and it caught my eye.   I really enjoy things like this; sometimes being quirky is a good thing.   Some people might even consider me quirky, but I prefer “eccentric...” I like big words. 

Epiphany

Flamingos and Ducks… Living together in Harmony… Like Ebony and Ivory, well Perhaps Cheap Lipstick and Cheap Aftershave. Wow… An Epiphany!!!!
