Snowberry Clearwing

Looking like a fascinating cross between a bee and a hummingbird, this little visitor appeared among the blossoms of my Texas Sage. I had never encountered such a creature before, so its presence caught me completely by surprise. Curious, I did a bit of research to figure out what it might be, and it seems that it may actually be wandering a bit outside of its usual range. Regardless, it was a delightful discovery—an unexpected guest that brought both wonder and beauty to my garden.

Cruising the Gulf

A view of the Gulf of Mexico cruising on Royal Caribbean.   The peace and solace of being at sea is a great meditative tool.   For those who have not yet done it or who may have some trepidation.   I definitely recommend a short cruise to see how you like it.   It is a wonderful way to see the world and have fun doing it.  Plus, you get to try different things and foods you may have never thought you would.

Mississippi Slushie

Winter in Mississippi is not a very wintery event usually, believe me when we found out that it was supposed to snow we were very shocked and surprised. However when a majority of our state turned into a big slush puppie (minus the flavor)… needless to say I am sad. I would have loved to have had the opportunity to have built a rare Mississippi snowman to post on here… but instead y’all will have to handle a bit of wet snow on a trampoline in a flooded back yard. Tonight, we get to have tons of fun… when most of this turns into rare Mississippi Ice!!!!

Scarlet's Web

Spiders are fascinating creatures that receive a relatively bad rep, much like snakes, alligators, crocodiles, or pretty much anything else that humans do not deem “warm and fuzzy.” Spiders occupy a special place for me, as do most creepy-crawlies; that does not mean that I like them particularly, but I do hold an intense respect and admiration for the creatures. This may be surprising considering a year ago I was stung by a scorpion that had crawled in my bed, but it was doing what it does. This particular spider is in my back yard, not sure what type it is but it is about an inch long, hairy and grey. In these videos it is having a small feast of Horsefly that had found its way into her web. I have christened her Scarlet… not to be confused with Charlotte.

Ship Island

Ship Island is one of my favorite places to visit in Mississippi; it has History, a calm beach… and a wavy beach not unlike those in Gulf Shores or the Florida Panhandle. I spent a good deal of today on the island, it gave me a chance to reflect, and relax… plus the boat ride out on the SS Captain Pete was fun. The waves and wind were strong from Hurricane Dolly several hundred miles away, but the weather was bright and sunny for us on the island, and over all it was a wonderful, beautiful trip.

Madam Butterfly

Butterflies fascinate me on many levels, and its mostly the ugly duckling appeal that they bring to the world. They start out these little worms that do nothing but crawl around and eat, and hope not to get eaten… and when they are ready they retreat into their own little world, and come out this beautiful majestic creature. This fact should make them an inspiration, nothing is permanent all things change… it is up to us to make that change positive.

My Babies

I went to my friend Echo’s house Tuesday, and when I did I found her birdhouse had fallen… and fallen to pieces. Five babies were stranded on the ground, with no protection or a mom. So for 6 hours I became a surrogate mother to five babies, not sure what species, bird nonetheless. I kept them until I could deliver them safely into my friend Charli’s waiting arms, she has the knowledge and means to take care of them and help them get the resources they need to survive. I found their eating very odd to say the least, they were fed baby food and water through a syringe, they loved every bit of it. When I finally sent them on their way, I was sad… and I missed my babies for a day, but sometimes you have to do what is best.

Diva Dog

I have never seen a canine with so much patience…. Meet Noelle and her mom Meredith, two divas going through life with enough priss and sophistication to put any multi-million dollar heiress to shame. Meredith is the daughter of one of my very best friends. Meredith is the Queen Bee with the heart of an angel, always loving and caring. Noelle is the little black poodle with the courage of a lion and patience of a thirsty cactus. I have never seen a dog play with a child the way that Noelle plays with Meredith… ok well I had also never seen a dog sit in a swing with its legs hanging out, while actually swinging without making some attempt for escape, but I guess if you’re a diva… then its all good!

Beautiful Couple

The Ross Barnett Reservoir is a great place to go and relax, and occasionally it can surprise you with beauty. These two trees stand in Lakeshore Park on the Rankin County Side of the Reservoir and provide shade in the summer, and a break from the cool wind like today. Oh and believe me the wind was strong and brisk today creating some wonderfully large waves that sent spray on anyone within a ten foot radius of the shore, it was a really nice albeit a cold experience.
