The Road Avoided

The road before isn’t always the easiest road, the bend and tribulations are what make the trip worth while. When we begin the journey, we are one person, and when we arrive at our destination, we become someone completely different.

This is a road I avoided for a long time; it is Airport Road in Mendenhall Mississippi. I am not going to say the reasons I have avoided it, but it took me four years to traverse its beautiful stretches. I made the trip finally, and learned a few things about myself that I had been avoiding, and found what I was looking for.

Now what to do with that?

Shadows of the Past

Most people see cemeteries is a place to avoid, it is a place of death and sadness; the final resting place of those before us. Back in October a few friends and I took a trip to Rocky Springs, Mississippi. Rocky Springs was at one time a thriving community outside of Port Gibson, Mississippi. Through the years the toll of disease and war eventually left the city abandoned, with only safes and cisterns in a grove of trees marking where buildings once stood. The Rocky Springs Church with it’s lonely cemetery is all that remains from this town, the cemetery holding the last, and only inhabitants of a bygone past. I find solace in places like this, it is a place of quiet and beauty… a place to be respected.

look Again

Things can be viewed from many different points of reference, and you may think you really see something, but in reality you are not even seeing a third of what it really is. The trick is to see from all aspects, that is something that I wonder is even possible. Our species is capable of so much, and yet so many of our people neglect to actually “see” they take what is there and they go with it. They do not allow it to grow, they do not mold it, and they simply accept it and move on. This is not what is always best; it causes stagnation and that is a downfall. Stagnation is never a good thing, it leads to acceptance, and eventually cession of growth… and growth is needed for survival. All of our achievements were done by someone taking a bold step to look at a problem from a new perspective, and in doing so we found the solution; for all we know the key to our deepest mysteries may be just as simple.

About the Photo: This graffiti adorns the back of an administration trailer in Brandon Park. Graffiti fascinates me, it is often an overlooked and scorned form of art, I think this one displays a message that can be truly taken to heart.

Hearts United

I was once half a person, going through life looking… searching for something. Now that I have unexpectedly found my other half, I feel as if anything is possible. With you I can conquer oceans, and fly through the air. With you I can unite nations to bring our hearts together. Life is beautiful and I am ecstatic to share that beauty with you. Together we will see the planet, hand in hand we will stand on foreign shores, and marvel at the beauty that pales in comparison to you.

The Pursuit of Happiness

Sometimes we go through life just expecting things to go the way we want it to… at least until we face something completely unexpected. It is in those moments that we need the most help we can get, some way to get through to the other side of the obstacle in our path. When you come across an obstacle in life, don’t just dive in and try to swim through it, you never know how swift the current may be, chance are if you walk along the bank, you will find your way… It may take longer, but at least you can keep your head above water.

This is a view of Rosemary Bridge on Rosemary Road in between Florence and Terry. I figured Black and White was fitting; it gives it a little something extra.

Looking Out

This photo was taken on the Rankin side of Rosemary Road in Florence, Mississippi. It is the top of one of the highest points in the area, overlooking the Pearl River plain. Winter has taken most of the green out of the normally bright landscape, the field yearns for the warmth of spring… so it can burst with life once more.

From this point you can actually see about seven water towers from towns many miles away, althought not in this photo. It is a spot that begs you to stop and take in the beauty around you.

Barn

My entire life I would pass b this old barn on the way to and from my mother’s. Something about it would always catch my fancy; it always had a charm to it. Something about it reminded me of the Wizard of Oz, it had a beauty all its own.

The photo was originally taken in color, but I had to play with it a little… to give it my own personal touch.
