In Honor

Monday is Memorial Day, a day to remember those that gave their lives in honor of this country of ours.   We must honor them and never forget the sacrifice that they gave us, and we must not forget the men and women currently sacrificing everyday for our country.   We do however tend to forget the foreigners that gave their lives for our values, let us also honor the men and women who gave their lives for our country, though it was not their country to serve

These memorials are from different places… though they are all similar they all share a common status, they honor men and women who gave their lives in the armed forces of various different wars and battles.

Mississippi Kudzu

Kudzu was brought to the United States, from Japan, in the twentieth century, as a public solution to erosion. It soon grew into a nuisance that swallows entire fields, and anything that happens to lie in its path. This is the view looking down from a hillside in Meridian Mississippi, the kudzu is enveloping everything… while it is rather pretty to look at, we must remember the danger this vine poses to our natural ecology.

Meridian At Night

Darkness can be foreboding and overwhelming, and sometimes it seems that we will never make it through. But no matter what, the light is always there… it may be dim, but the trick is to find it once you do that… it will get better.

This photo is from Meridians infamous Murder Spot. It is one of the higher points in the area, and you have a great view of the surrounding city, but it is a little creepy. The reason I say it is creepy is that there is a sign reminding people that NNS was murdered there in 1998 and not to dump, I’m not sure if it was a scare tactic to keep kids from making-out or if it did happen… but it worked on the creep factor.

Queen City

Meridian, Mississippi is a hidden jewel to most, and I can attest to that as that it was hidden to me until I lived there. Once one of Mississippi’s largest communities, second only to Jackson, it now has a unique feel that few other towns have. This has to do to the fact that it no longer holds the title of “Queen City” because other cities in the state have passed it in economic growth… but it has not lost any of it’s elegance. Meridian has a large well managed downtown area, many museums, and even more hidden spots. And for anyone who has ever been through Meridian they have Carousel horses all through the city. This was started as a Hope Village project created by one of Meridians most famous daughters, Sela Ward. It Celebrates the unique Dentzel Carousel that Meridian is home to, as well as unique art talent that designed the horses. It is magical…

Royal Castles

Every now and again you come across a place that sparks your interest, and more often than not… your imagination. Meridian, Mississippi is full of such places that spark your imagination, and Royal Land is one of those places. From what I was able to gather, this was a small local theme park adjacent to the fairgrounds, however they are both now defunct, and this entrance is all that remains of Royal Land.
