Texas State Fair

When I was younger it was always an exciting time to go to the fair.  As far back as I can remember we would always make a day out of it with the Mississippi State Fair in Jackson.  Now that I am older and Mississippi is much further away I have to indulge myself with the Texas State Fair.  It is bigger than the fair of my childhood by far and it comes with a set of traditions all to itself… like Big Tex.  Big Tex is a giant animatronic cowboy who welcomes everyone to the fair, most people stop to at least get a selfie with the behemoth in Dickies.   If you ever find yourself in Texas during fair weather,  stop in and say hello to Big Tex and take in some of the sights… and eat some great fair food!

Dreams

Dreams are the things we cling to, we hold onto them for dear life hoping with all our being that we will not watch them shatter around us into the dust of a trillion stars. We never imagine that they will come true, but we relish the hope that they provide, and yet when the impossible becomes a reality… we are stunned. And then the dream becomes a building block, stronger than diamonds.

My oldest and seeming to me impossible dream: become a world traveler, leave my continent behind and see another. This dream has become a reality, and now the world has opened her arms and shown me that I can visit the places in my dreams.

The Top

The top is where everything looks different, it all comes into perspective. Suddenly everything that is such a big deal is so small and insignificant. The top takes many forms; it can be the peak of success or just the peak… I have reached a peak and I hope to ride this out for a while. Like sitting atop a Ferris wheel, looking out at the events below.

Mississippi State Fair

The Mississippi State Fair is one of the events that people throughout the state look forward to every year in October. Held in Jackson, Mississippi at the state fairgrounds, it is full of games and food that people usually just experience once a year, I know that I personally prefer to go at least once. I have many fond memories through my childhood of trips to the fair, some of my earliest memories actually are from the fair. The fair is more than just rides and food, they have judging for the best of the best in Mississippi. From Cars to Jam and everything in between… it gets judged and awarded, it really is one of the best traditions in the state, and after all it has lasted 149 years.
