Frida Kahlo

This vibrant mural adorns a sea wall as you disembark from your cruise ship in Costa Maya, Mexico. It pays tribute to one of the most renowned Mexican artists, whose influence has endured through generations. Her presence continues to be felt across various forms of media whenever Mexico is represented—even making a cameo in Disney’s Coco. I often wonder what she would think of her lasting legacy and how she continues to embody Mexican culture with such grace and beauty.

The 'O'

America is full of many different restaurant chains, and I always had my preferences. I always loved O’Charley’s, the food is pure Americana, and the people always seem to be genuinely friendly. I always wondered why people I have known seemed to love to work for the company. It was not until February 2009 when I found employment with the restaurant that I discovered just how special my O’Charley’s is, we are a family. I always hope that others find a place that is as fun and supportive a place to work, I am lucky to have two wonderful jobs.

Knowledge is power, which is a credo that I take to heart. U-Haul has had the most wonderful Idea; take facts about all the U.S. states and Canadian provinces… create the oddest graphics and post them on the side of their U-Haul. Not only does it increase the nations useless trivia cache, but it teaches all of us facts about our home states we may have never known. I came across this Mississippi branded U-Haul in Arkansas, and its facts about the Mississippi Sandhill Crane shocked and amazed me, I had never known that one of the last flocks of this ancient bird lives in my home state. Wow, now I want a photo of it for my blog.

Essence of Jackson

There is a new “skyscraper*” under construction in downtown Jackson. Before construction began, a project was sent out to various schools, create a mural that captures the essence of Jackson, and it shall be hung on the construction wall. The murals themselves were lovely, they were very creative, others were really abstract… but I was impressed nonetheless. This one submitted by Jackson Prep was definitely my favorite, it really does capture the essence of downtown, all of the potential… however I thought it was odd to see the King Edward in the art, but with its new revitalization underway… perhaps soon it will be as bustling as this mural.


*For most of the world a skyscraper is a really large building that seems to scrape the sky. For Jackson it is any large building above two stories.
