Carpe Diem

The world is ours for the taking; we can not just sit by and let life pass us by!  We must keep looking bravely forward and walk un-wavering into the uncertain horizon.   We must not forget the problems and joys of the past; they are a part off us.  However there are new adventures to be had and we must take them all as they come.

The need to "seize the day" becomes ever more clear when you reach my age and wonder what happened; how did I get to be so old when just a short time ago I was a young man?

So, I agree with you; with the caveat that there are millions of people who live under such terrible conditions of poverty and sickness that the slogan "carpe diem" is something they can't even begin to comprehend.

You may have read how George Clooney suffered a terribly debilitating spine injury while making a movie. As he lay in a bed of pain not knowing if relief would ever come or, indeed, if he would ever walk again, he thought, not of seizing the day, but suicide.

What do we do for people in those kinds of situations? In Florida, where we live, a large percentage of homes are in foreclosure, largely because they are worth only about 1/2 of what is owed on their mortgages.

I don't have any answers, but the questions need to be addressed.
