The Song of 2020

In 1994 Stephen Kings: The Stand was adapted into a mini series.   It told the story of a pandemic that decimated the world.  In one scene this song plays over a montage of destruction.   As we now live in a world going through its own pandemic, this song has embodied the eeriness of it all.  Driving down empty streets, announces of lockdowns, and just the instability of it all.   It feels like a paradigm shift... the world as we knew it will never quite be the same.

Lizard, Lizard, Lizard

Coming from Mississippi where the common outdoor lizard was the Carolina Anole; this was a big surprise.   These are the Texas spiny lizard and they do get rather large.   Here where I am they are everywhere: in trees, on the house, fence, and even dangerously basking in the road.  I love seeing them when I do, they are a reminder that no matter where we may live we are still surrounded by wildlife.

Intruder Alert!

The other night my cat, Celeste was acting weird.  She was trying to get under the couch, so we moved the couch and this little guy was there.  We caught him and let him go back outside.  I wish him the best!

Puppachino Joy!

The best part of Starbucks is the Puppachino by far.   Nothing like the joy on a pups face when they get a nice treat.  Starbucks gets so much of my money just because they have these!

Sunflower

I grew this sunflower from a seed in my little backyard garden.  Now as summer is coming to a close; we will soon be back in winter.  These little memories will bring us back through to spring.

Cute!

I love finding cute things in random places.  This mouse adorned the checkout counter of a Boba Shop.  It was too cute to not take a picture of.  Things like this make the day worth out, to go and find something just so adorable.

Spirits

I spent most of my formative years in this Pearl, Mississippi house.  It holds so many memories for me both good and bad.   I cannot believe it is being sold.

This house remains one of the most interesting places I have ever lived.   I will always remember lying in bed and listening to the sound of people walk down the halls.  It never scared me; it just was.  I also remember seeing a woman walk down the hallway and hearing voices in rooms where people were not.  It was unnerving at times; but it was always fun living in a haunted house.   I remember when I first heard my mom and grandma mention to me about the spirits.  I had never heard them speak of such things… it actually surprised me; but let me know that It was not just me that experienced it.   The weirdest thing was when things would move.  You couldn’t expect anything to stay in one place, it would inexplicably move to another part of the room or another room in general.  You just never knew what would happen.

I can’t help but wonder if my mom is now counted among the spirits that reside at 306 Pearl Drive.  She passed away in the living room sleeping in her bed.  She slept in there because she was an amputee and getting around was easier than going into and down the hallway.

I wonder if she made friends with the other spirits in the house too.  In life, she never met a stranger… I doubt death would stop her.
