Reflections

The sunset creating shadows and colours upon the calm waters of Lake Tom Bailey in Toomsuba, MS.

This reminded me of how important it is to look into ourselves, and reflect upon who we are. We tend not to like to look at our own selves, preferring to look around us, but we must remember to take a glance at the beauty we are, and fix the imperfections we find. To become the best we can be.

The Road Avoided

The road before isn’t always the easiest road, the bend and tribulations are what make the trip worth while. When we begin the journey, we are one person, and when we arrive at our destination, we become someone completely different.

This is a road I avoided for a long time; it is Airport Road in Mendenhall Mississippi. I am not going to say the reasons I have avoided it, but it took me four years to traverse its beautiful stretches. I made the trip finally, and learned a few things about myself that I had been avoiding, and found what I was looking for.

Now what to do with that?

Always Remember

I don’t pretend to know why things happen… I don’t know why things turn out the way they do. That is not for me to even worry about, or waste time even entertaining the idea.

I like to pretend that I do understand the way the world works, or even that I know what happened that night. Why I acted the way I did, and I wonder what your thoughts were… what went through your mind… Did you think of me? Was that why you were there? If I had done anything differently…. Would you still be here?

I don’t know…

But you will forever be a part of who I am.

I will never forget you!

2010

Many things happened in 2010 that surprised me, I never thought it was possible. I have had many trials and tribulations that I encountered this year, I don’t really know how to classify this year. I do know that no matter what happened to me, I realize that I have an amazing life. This is why my song for 2010 is “Good Life” by One Republic. It really exemplifies what I feel, and how 2010 affected me.

Here is to continuing the good life into 2011!

“Hopelessly
I feel like there might be something that I'll miss.
Hopelessly,
I feel like the window closes oh so quick.
Hopelessly,
I'm taking a mental picture of you now,
'Cause hopelessly,
The hope is we have so much to feel good about.

Oh, this has gotta be the good life,
This has gotta be the good life,
This could really be a good life, good life.”

Simplicity

Yes, these are my feet… tucked away in my DC’s surrounded by the leaves that have fallen from the trees.   Simplicity is the way to go on occasion, forget the over details that can sometimes take control, and leave us with less than we began with.   Simplicity, sometimes can be what we need, just enough… more than most…

Remember

Another Christmas season has come and gone, and we are on the cusp of yet another new year. A whole new beginning, something that we get everyday but on a grander scale every year and decade, it is up to us individually what we make of these constant new starts. Every day across the planet there are people that are held back for various reasons: economic, health, war. Then there are people that forget, we forget that there are still in need, people all over the world… and even in our own cities. Although Christmas is over, we still can not allow ourselves to become complacent. Please still consider giving to charities of your choice, throughout the year. Christmas may come once a year, but people don’t stop needing after Christmas ends.

Frosty Morning

Our lives go through many changes, sometimes suddenly, and we are caught unexpectedly in the cold.   When we are caught in the sudden winter, we think that the sun will never again warm our faces and we forget that the cycle will continue and things will soon begin anew.

The weather in Mississippi is very unpredictable, one day it can be 80˚F (26˚C) and the next it can snow.   This has happened more often in recent years, you can call it global warming or climate change… it can be natural or man influenced, but it is obvious that something is happening.  Just a few days ago we were wearing shorts and sweating, and this morning our world was covered in ice and it was a nice 28˚F (-2˚C).  While this leads to a beautiful frosty world, it does wreak havoc on our bodies, as well as confusion over our wardrobe.
